Folly Beach is a favorite source of inspiration for me. It is a barrier island and known as "The Edge of America," which inspired the name "On the Edge Studio." I enjoy working with 3 different themes- Traditional, Nature, and Mixed Media. This blog is a way to show my quilts and share some of their stories with family and friends.

Fabric Storage Ideas

I really enjoy seeing the studios of other fiber artists. Recently I visited the huge studio of fellow Fiber Junkie, Denny.  She moved late last year and now has several rooms in the lower level of her house, each dedicated to different aspects of her work.

She has some of her fabric organized into plastic bins.

A lot of her unique fabrics are displayed very effectively on these plastic coated wire shelves, normally sold for closet organization.  I love this idea and hope to do something similar in my studio.

This is another clever idea. The wooden racks were originally gates used to block rooms for pets or children. She took them apart and used cable ties to hang them vertically.

And here is yet another wonderful idea to store those special fabrics that you don't want to fold on a shelf.  I am sure I will look around and see ordinary items a bit differently (possible storage). I think trips to Goodwill or yard sales may be needed.

Previously, Denny stored her thread on wall shelves, but her new studio space has concrete walls so she came up with this new storage for all those spools of thread.

Denny has a large number of these huge turntables. She found them very useful in the past and most likely will again as she continues to organize her new studio space.

I really like this large pressing table idea. It is very simple and requires no construction. She has a board covered with carpet pad (great use for the leftover pad). To top it off is a sheet of fabric!  A wonderful idea if you have a large area to leave it set up.  She also uses it to assemble her large pieces.
